Why Join the HVAC Industry?
Let’s face it, most people do not think about their heating and cooling systems until something goes wrong! Your job as an HVAC technician is to figure out the problem and provide a sustainable solution that addresses the issue to the customer’s satisfaction.
You become a detective, searching for small clues, unusual odors, or strange sounds that could tell why a mechanical part is not working correctly.
You become an engineer and designer, searching for the most efficient path to install new equipment to ensure the customer gets the best performance from their HVAC investment.
Best of all, you become a trusted partner to a family or business. You help to keep them comfortable, and safe at night.
Joining the HVAC Community
The term HVAC stands for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. Over time, you will become an expert in repairing these different components.
To start, you earn your high school diploma or GED. You can consider going to college to earn a certification in courses that specialize in HVAC design, or you can complete an accredited HVAC program. Afterward, you become an apprentice to receive hands-on training and learn all the fundamentals of the business.
Next, you begin to earn professional certifications such as those offered by the North American Technician Excellence (NATE), or the Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians (RETA). These certifications let your customers know they are working with a trusted and knowledgeable professional who knows how to get the job done properly!
The HVAC community is like a family. Each year, for example, the Carrier and Bryant Distributors’ Education Foundation awards scholarships to 25 recipients to support their college or vocational pursuits. These scholarships are available to children, grandchildren, and employees of Carrier and Bryant dealers and contractors and their employees throughout the U.S. and Canada.
